The first-session announcement

To be said out loud when you open the course, once the block has been circulated. It updates with the level you set.

“This course applies the ISC Paris AI Charter. The authorisation level for this course is N2, Assistance. It means that AI is allowed for specific tasks, structure, rewording, translation. The use statement is mandatory. If you are unsure what is allowed, I would rather you asked me before submitting your work.”

Why say it out loud

Annex A2 asks for the level to be announced in the first session, on top of appearing on the first page of the syllabus. A student who has heard the rule rarely disputes it afterwards.

Default values

  • Work submitted from home: N2, unless the teacher states otherwise.
  • Invigilated exams: N0 or N1, unless stated otherwise.
  • Final dissertations: N3, with a detailed use statement.

Academic freedom

ISC Paris Faculty Guide V3, paragraph 3, reasoned refusal clause.

Declaring the N0 to N4 level in the syllabus is a teaching standard recommended by V3 and supported by the AI Transformation Office. It is not a new contractual obligation.

Any member of faculty may, by reasoned decision, choose not to apply it. That refusal has no consequence on professional appraisal, career progression, teaching load, participation in governance bodies or access to institutional resources.

Regulatory obligations remain: GDPR, the AI Act, research integrity. They come from the law, not from the charter.
